Following recent announcements by the Government it has been decided to re-commence services at Headingley Methodist Church.

Latest News: Following the latest relaxation of restrictions, singing by the congregation is now permitted.

We will continue to operate ‘social distancing’ for the time being. The position will be reviewed in due course.


Next Sunday Service at HMC: December 5th 10:45 – Joint Service at Headingley St. Columba URC NOTE – NO SERVICE AT HEADINGLEY METHODIST!
Next Thursday Service: December 2nd 10:30 – Service led by Rev. Jo Lightowler – please note, this service will take place in the Parlour.

A booking system will operate for all services.  Jean Townsend will take bookings for Sundays and Christine Andrews for Thursdays.  As far as is possible people will be allocated the same seat each week and be encouraged to inform Jean or Christine if they are not able to attend.  Space will be held back downstairs for late comers and people who are unable to go to the gallery.

Chris Coleman, our Lay Pastor will be leading our Advent Group in the Parlour at 1.45pm on the four Tuesdays in Advent starting next Tues 30th November. Tea and coffee will be available at 1.30pm. The study is based on the Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell’s book Walking Backwards to Christmas.

Headingley Methodist Church from Otley Road

Headingley Methodist Church (HMC) is a friendly, warm and welcoming community of Methodists in the very heart of Headingley, the famous suburb of Leeds.

Opened in 1845, the church is a fine example of an early Victorian Methodist chapel and still retains its historic appeal. There has however been considerable modernisation over the years, and the church now serves many purposes; nonetheless the main function of the building is still very much as a place for Christian worship and witness, and outreach to the local and wider community. As well as the church itself, the building comprises several other rooms which are put to a variety of uses by various groups during the week, as will be seen from other pages within this website.

New worshippers are always made welcome at Headingley, and are likely to find themselves plied with tea or coffee and biscuits or cake, as well as fellowship in prodigious quantities.
